EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oakland Promise celebrated its 10th anniversary Thursday evening by honoring 1,600 Class of 2026 scholarship recipients and 8,600 past awardees. The nonprofit in partnership with the city has awarded over $40 million since 2016 to help young people attend college and vocational programs.  KTVU
  • Air Aware Oakland provides real-time air quality data from monitors at 56 school campuses—plans will add sensors to 75 sites soon. The Oakland Unified School District, Sequoia Foundation and Higher Ground support the project and train students in air science.  The Oaklandside

  • Caltrans will host a listening session today at 10 a.m. at St. Jarlath Catholic Church in Oakland to gather input on lifting the big rig ban along an 8.7-mile section of I-580 (from Foothill Boulevard to Grand Avenue), with a follow-up meeting set for May 23.  KTVU
