On Saturday, a sustainability event at Thrive Center focused on upcycling sneakers to reduce waste and promote a greener future.

Former Golden State Warrior Adonal Foyle donated his size 17 sneakers for display — local businesses shared simple methods to repair and reuse shoes so they do not end up in landfills.

Polling stations are open in Oakland as voters prepare for Tuesday’s special election to choose the city’s new fourth mayor since December, elect a District 2 city councilmember, and decide Measure A, a sales tax measure.
