Good morning, Oakland.

In 2025, Oakland embraced community highlights as Loard’s Ice Cream reopened its historic Dimond District shop, the Oakland Ballers won a record-breaking championship, and Samuel Merritt University’s new downtown campus prepared to open in January & boost local education.

These events brought renewed pride and opportunity to the city.

Starting in January, Lunatrain will offer private charter service on Amtrak trains from Oakland to Los Angeles and Emeryville to Denver.

The service includes two renovated cars with dining, sleeping, and panoramic views (first Oakland trip leaves Jan. 15 at 9 a.m. for $10,000 for six).

Golden State Valkyries face an uncertain start as labor disputes and a short offseason threaten their upcoming WNBA season, and the team plans key roster moves to counter free agency changes from Toronto and Portland — leaving fans eager for a competitive season.
