- ➤ Waymo, a Mountain View-based self-driving car company owned by Alphabet, received DMV clearance to expand its driverless service in northern and southern California and will start service in San Diego in mid-2026. The permit covers areas including the Bay Area, Sacramento, and a corridor from Santa Clarita to San Diego — and the company must secure further approval from the California Public Utilities Commission before launching in San Diego.
