  • On Friday, Chabot Elementary in Oakland hosted a special Halloween reveal when 10-year-old Asa Luo received a custom Mario Kart costume made to fit his wheelchair. Asa, who was paralyzed after being struck by a stray bullet in a gang-related incident in 2023, celebrated the event with family and friends while Officer Cory Hunt from Magic Wheelchair helped design the costume—bringing a moment of joy amid a difficult past.  KTVU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bay Area elected officials and nonprofit leaders have announced contingency plans should SNAP (CalFresh) food assistance payments pause amid an ongoing shutdown. Local groups are mobilizing food, funds, and delivery partnerships to support low-income families across the region.  KTVU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Steve Kerr said the Warriors turned the ball over too many times in losses to the Trail Blazers and Bucks—hurting their chance to win. He said the team will focus on better spacing on offense—so players can drive and pass more easily in future games.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • Cal Women’s Basketball will open its season in Paris when it faces Vanderbilt on Monday, Nov. 3 at Adidas Arena — part of the Oui-Play Paris 2025 showcase and the team’s first game abroad.   • Cal pulled within three points after Kendrick Raphael scored three touchdowns but fell 31—21 to No. 15 Virginia at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
