- ➤ Food banks across the Bay Area are bracing for a surge in demand as the government shutdown has threatened CalFresh funding to run out in November—over 500 families visited a Mountain View distribution site last Saturday and local officials are urging emergency aid. Local groups and state leaders are coordinating support to help more than 170,000 people who depend on this program. KTVU
- ➤ Coast Guard Island — a 67-acre manmade island that once helped catch rum‐runners and train Coast Guard members — saw immigration enforcement protests this week as federal agents arrived for planned operations. Today the island serves as the Coast Guard’s Pacific Area Command headquarters and holds cutters that patrol the Pacific. San Francisco Chronicle

- ➤ Moses Moody returned from a left calf strain—after missing preseason and the first two regular-season games—to play 21 minutes for the Warriors in a 20-point loss to the Trail Blazers on Friday.
