- ➤ Oakland will host a series of events themed around resistance—starting with a No Kings rally on Oct 18 at Wilma Chan Park and a screening of the documentary 'The Apology' on Oct 19 at OMCA that examines the history of Russell City. - ➤ Oakland’s Department of Violence Prevention is teaming with the Urban Peace Institute to build a violence interruption academy that will train up to 25 community members per cohort (starting in 2027). - ➤ Thousands of Kaiser workers in Oakland walked off the job yesterday in a five-day strike over staffing and pay concerns, with about 300 workers protesting at Kaiser’s main hospital at 7 a.m. Kaiser said hospitals and clinics will remain open—temporary staff will fill gaps until the strike ends Sunday at 7 a.m. San Francisco Chronicle
- ➤ Parents in the Bay Area are urging lawmakers to ban synthetic kratom after the potent opioid 7-OH—sold like candy and easily available in local stores—has led to a surge in youth addiction.
