  • Nearly 2,000 Oakland residents attended a Bay Resistance noncooperation training at Oakland Technical High School on Sunday to learn tactics against planned deportations and a possible National Guard deployment. Participants worked in small groups—discussing economic boycotts, labor strikes, and blockades—and community organizers urged neighbors to unite for mutual protection.  San Francisco Chronicle

  • Khariyyah Shabazz—author of Resilient Voices: A Compilation of Inspiring Quotes, Best Practices, and Community Voices—shared key excerpts with Oakland Voices. She will host We Da Town at Kinfolks on October 10 and the book is available at Marcus Bookstore and Alibi Bookshop.  Oakland Voices

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Oakland and San Jose protested Saturday to demand an Israel-Hamas ceasefire and the release of hostages as they pressed government leaders for stronger action. Protesters voiced their hope for a swift end to the conflict—evidencing rising local demand for peace.  ABC7
  • On Saturday afternoon, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon met with federal and county workers and union leaders in Oakland to discuss how the shutdown hurt working families—especially TSA employees at the airport who worked without pay. She said the meeting allowed local workers to share their challenges and she returns to D.C. today to press lawmakers for a spending bill.  ABC7

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Oakland Ballers won a Pioneer League championship on Sunday — ending a 35-year wait for a city baseball title as fans lined the streets at Raimondi Park. Oakland officials and supporters celebrated the win with renewed pride in the team and its historic achievement.  KTVU
  • Steve Scott, formerly the PA announcer for the Bulls and Knicks, has been named the Golden State Warriors’ PA announcer for the 2025-26 season and will debut Sunday at Chase Center—bringing 26 seasons of experience and a deep passion for his childhood team.
