  • Hyphy Burger will open a second location in East Oakland at 9895 East 14th St.—a renovated former KFC space cleared by health officials that will serve its popular smashburgers, fries, and milkshakes. Co-owned by influencer BayAreaFoodz and his partners, the expansion will bring new local dining options in the coming weeks.  San Francisco Chronicle

CRIME NEWS

  • Oakland police said that an initial investigation showed that Saturday morning shootings that killed two people and wounded at least four were not linked to the festival that ended hours earlier — Oakland First Fridays organizers stated the tragic incidents happened outside the event’s period.  KTVU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Oakland Unified Schools, girls’ math scores dropped nearly 19% from 2019 to 2024—leaving them behind as boys’ scores improved by 4% during the same period.  The Oaklandside

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oakland’s Fire Department reopened all 25 fire stations after months of renovations and temporary closures. An open house was held at Station 10 in Grand Lake on Sept. 6—an open house at Station 25 is planned for Sept. 13.  The Oaklandside

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 600 Kaiser midwives and nurse anesthetists went on a 12-hour strike Monday at Kaiser hospitals, demanding fair treatment and improved staffing — while Kaiser said it remained disappointed with the unions' decision and vowed to continue bargaining.  KTVU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kaitlyn Chen is a popular player for the Golden State Valkyries whose jersey sales and role as a role model have sparked a strong fan following—she is admired by many in the Bay Area despite playing few minutes.   • Mexico’s men’s national soccer team known as El Tri played its first game in 14 years at the Oakland Coliseum on Saturday, Sept. 6, with over 45,000 local Mexican American fans filling the stadium and overcoming fears of ICE raids—showing strong community resilience.  The Oaklandside
