Good morning, Oakland. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 7th of September.

CRIME NEWS

  • Two people were killed and multiple others were injured in separate shootings early Saturday morning following Oakland's First Fridays festival as police investigated reports of chaos from a nearby dirt-bike gathering and a separate homicide reported on Thursday.  ABC7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The California Assembly is set to vote on AB715— a bill that would require schools for grades K to 12 to appoint an antisemitism prevention coordinator to track hate incidents and provide training. Transit advocates warn that BART may cut service by up to 85% and Muni could reduce bus lines by 50%—a change that will lead to longer commutes and more traffic.  San Francisco Chronicle

SPORTS NEWS

  • French rookie Carla Leite of the Golden State Valkyries grew more confident in English and on the court during the playoff-clinching win on Sept.4, where she called plays, scored 12 points in the second half, and yelled for the ball—helping the team edge the Dallas Wings 84-80. She now averages 7.9 points and 2.1 assists in 34 games as she continues to build her leadership role.  San Francisco Chronicle
