BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Books Inc.—the Bay Area’s oldest independent bookstore—is seeking approval from the bankruptcy court for a Barnes & Noble purchase of $3.25 million so that it can keep its 7 neighborhood stores and 2 airport locations open. - ➤ Vanessa’s Bistro, a community restaurant owned by a mother and daughter since 2006 on Solano Avenue, will close permanently at the end of December because its lease was not renewed and low foot traffic made the business unsustainable—financial headwinds led to the decision. The restaurant was known for serving French and Vietnamese dishes like seafood bouillabaisse and maple leaf duck confit at its Berkeley location. The Oaklandside
- ➤ 21st Amendment Brewery, known for beers such as Hell or High Watermelon, will close its San Francisco brewpub and San Leandro facility later this year due to declining sales and rising costs—its final day of operations is set for Nov. 4.
