Good morning, Oakland.

Oakland Chinatown hosted its 36th annual StreetFest over the weekend, where nearly 100 vendors and live performers gathered amid recent local crime concerns — organizers said the event boosted both business and community spirit.

Health experts warn that new rules may make it hard for Oakland residents to get COVID shots this fall—fewer younger and healthy adults will qualify as the FDA restricts vaccines to older and medically at-risk groups.

Experts say the changes could lead to more hospitalizations and deaths if people miss their chance for free protection.

The Golden State Valkyries lost seven fourth quarter leads and have struggled with low scoring as they try to reach the playoffs in their debut season.

Injuries have forced the team to play short-handed, and coach Natalie Nakase said they must boost their focus in late-game play—challenges that now shape their season.

Vanja Černivec, the Golden State Valkyries’ vice president of basketball operations, will leave the team to join the expansion Portland Fire as its first general manager.

She was confirmed on August 23 — and an official press release along with plans for her replacement is expected next week.
