  • The Oakland Department of Transportation will upgrade Chinatown’s streets to widen sidewalks, reduce lanes and add pedestrian scrambles for safety today.   • ICE officers raided an East Oakland home near 79th Avenue and Hillside Street on Tuesday morning and arrested at least six people—including a 17-year-old minor and a person with a severe disability from Central American countries—while an attorney said the minor remained at an ICE field office on Wednesday despite Flores Settlement Agreement concerns.  San Francisco Chronicle

  • East Bay restaurants are struggling under heavy COVID-era EIDL loans while Iso Rabins of Forage Kitchen in Oakland launched Save Your Local—he is urging the federal government to forgive these loans as many eateries face default and potential closures.   • Oakland Unified School District now offers transitional kindergarten to all 4-year-olds, and schools like Grass Valley Elementary have seen enrollment jump from 158 to 1,284 with the new classes—restoring numbers that fell during the pandemic.
