CRIME NEWS

  • Police officers were shot at while responding to a domestic violence call in West Oakland on Friday—authorities arrested a suspect.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • Two former FCI Dublin officers pleaded guilty to sex crimes on Thursday—bringing the total to 10 convicted officers, the most charged with these crimes at any federal prison, with sentencing set for November.  KTVU
  • Oakland saw a significant drop in violent crimes in the first half of the year as homicides fell by 21%, assaults by 18%, and robberies by 41% while arson rose 9%—city leaders credited stricter enforcement, the Ceasefire program, and community support for the change.  KTVU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Children’s Fairyland will celebrate its 75th anniversary on September 1 with a birthday parade starting at 9:30 a.m. from the 19th Street BART station that will wind around the lake to the park & include interactive stations where kids can collect stamps for a limited-edition button. The park will also launch its first fully bilingual puppet show, Tío Conejo’s Big Wish, with daily shows at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. between Aug. 30 and Oct. 26 & offer affordable tickets for low-income families.  The Oaklandside
