- ➤ Tesla sent private invitations on July 31st to test a new ride-hailing service in the Bay Area that lets drivers use self-driving mode as long as they remain ready to take control—subject to California regulations requiring a driver in the vehicle. The pilot service covers routes from north of the Golden Gate to parts of the East Bay and down to San Jose and will not charge customers during its initial phase. KTVU
- ➤ Hyphy Burger in West Oakland will hold a grand opening on Saturday, Aug 2 with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. and a ribbon cutting at 3 p.m.—the event will feature free meals for the first 50 kids, jumpers, face painting, reptiles, horses and live shows. - ➤ The Alameda County Regional Auto Theft Task Force recovered nearly $30 million in stolen property over the last 18 months and on July 21 used a drone and spike strip to arrest a suspect fleeing in a stolen Jeep in Oakland (the team includes officers from Oakland PD, the county sheriff’s office, and CHP). - ➤ Today the Black Arts Movement Film Festival kicks off in Oakland with screenings, artist talks and community mixers at downtown venues from August 1 to 3.
