  • Latin jazz legend Pete Escovedo is on a new California tour that begins in Oakland today with an exhibit at Studios 11 and The Grand Gallery. His bold abstract paintings — inspired by his lifelong music career and personal memories — will be shown in San Francisco until Aug 2 before the tour moves on to Los Angeles, Carmel and San Diego.  ABC7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland will launch Space Week with interactive events for families starting Wednesday through Aug. 3—targeting children ages 6 to 12 with astronaut training, rover challenges, and a weekend festival featuring a real astronaut. The program offers mission logs for visitors to track activities and earn prizes.  KTVU

  • Nick Kurtz of the Athletics made history Friday, July 25 when he became the first major league rookie to hit four home runs in one game against the Houston Astros+ he also had six hits, 19 total bases, eight RBIs and six runs scored in his record-setting performance.
