Good morning, Oakland.

Starting the new school year, Oakland Unified School District will ban cell phone use during classes, requiring students to keep phones locked away or in secure Yondr pouches — repeat violations will lead to confiscation and parent pick-ups.

Twenty-five boys and young men from Kingmakers of Oakland spent six weeks learning AI and community problem-solving at Sankofa Kings.

They will show ideas addressing homelessness & gentrification today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kapor Center in Uptown Oakland.

International student visas will soon be capped at four years unless extended, which may impact research and student opportunities at local Bay Area campuses such as UC Berkeley.

Authorities expect the change to affect many international students coming to campus.
