COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Rockridge worked with the Oakland Department of Transportation to study speeding and craft a 29-page plan with ideas to slow traffic—OakDOT said it will test a 90-day diverter pilot to see if it can reduce dangerous speeds. The plan and pilot come after many community meetings and data collections to address concerns about cars cutting through the neighborhood.  The Oaklandside

  • UC Berkeley marketing professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski was shot and killed outside his ex-wife's home near Athens while in Greece for a child custody hearing, and his family said he was murdered in cold blood (he was 43).  ABC7
  • On July 15th, a woman was fatally struck while crossing at Fruitvale Avenue and East 27th Street in East Oakland when a white pickup truck hit her and fled the scene—police later arrested the driver and said alcohol may have been a factor.  KTVU

  • Today, Oakland welcomed new food spots as Puerto Rican Street Cuisine began its soft opening in San Antonio to serve pernil, mofongo and arroz con gandules — Alta Vina opened a wine tasting room in Jack London Square featuring local winemakers, and the burger truck Str8 Flame launched an artisan menu.  The Oaklandside

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oakland police said they did not share surveillance camera data with ICE even though a report showed local agencies accessed the system for federal cases — including one labeled as an ICE case. Privacy advocates and state officials are reviewing the logs as the department looks to expand its surveillance network.  The Oaklandside

  • Bay FC signed 19-year-old Onyeka Gamero from FC Barcelona on Tuesday for an undisclosed fee—she is recovering from a torn ACL and will complete her rehab with the team as part of its long-term plan to boost the offense.  San Francisco Chronicle
