- ➤ Daniel Goldberg of Richmond’s Feral Ecology organized a foraging event last May where over 40 local residents gathered loquats from around 50 trees in Oakland and Berkeley to make wild fruit wine. - ➤ This weekend, Oakland offers 13 free events for all to enjoy—Friday brought street festivals on Telegraph and live outdoor shows at OMCA, today features lakeside walks, block parties, art workshops and live dance performances, and tomorrow the water shuttle will celebrate its one-year anniversary along with a farmers market at Jack London Square. - ➤ On July 10, a large auto-theft raid in East Oakland led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of 15 stolen cars—authorities targeted the hotspot near Prune, Pearmain and Pippin streets where thefts have long troubled the community. KTVU
- ➤ A pedestrian was killed Monday at about 10:00 p.m. when a hit-and-run driver struck a walker in a marked crosswalk at 82nd and Bancroft in East Oakland—neighbors say crashes happen nearly every month. KTVU

- ➤ On Thursday, July 11, the Port of Oakland voted to rename the airport to Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport in hopes of drawing more travelers — a decision that follows a previous renaming which led to legal challenges from San Francisco. Some local residents said the new name is confusing while travel officials argued it highlights the airport's broader Bay Area access. ABC7
- ➤ At a federal court hearing last Thursday, Judge Orrick said Oakland police did not fully meet overhaul requirements because delays in internal investigations left key reforms unfinished—three mandated tasks remain incomplete. Mayor Lee vowed to complete the reforms during her term by taking new steps such as rehiring the former inspector general, with the next oversight hearing scheduled for Dec. 9. The Oaklandside
