Good morning, Oakland. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 29th of June.

CRIME NEWS

  • A new Alameda County report finds that Black residents are 33 times more likely to die from gun homicides while those in West Oakland’s poorest neighborhoods face risks eight times higher than residents in wealthier areas— it shows that on average, three people are killed and 12 are injured each week by gun violence.  ABC7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Data shows that May and early June were record-breaking for wind in the Bay Area, with Oakland on pace to have its windiest June as average gusts hit 34.23 mph — nearly 4 mph above past records. Climate scientists blamed a persistent eastward-shifted North Pacific High — which tightened the pressure gradient along the coast and inland valleys.  San Francisco Chronicle
