  • On Saturday, June 21, thousands gathered on the northeast side of Lake Merritt for LakeFest Oakland as local musicians Mistah F.A.B. and Kamaiyah energized the crowd and vendors offered food and art.   • Metallica finished their two-night stop at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on June 22—playing many well-known songs that brought fans of all ages together. The concert featured openers Ice Nine Kills and Pantera and recalled the band’s famous 1985 Oakland show, showing that their music still matters.  San Francisco Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service warned of an elevated to near-critical fire threat in the East Bay that will last through Saturday, prompting residents to prepare and fire crews to stay alert—planned power shutoffs are affecting a few customers amid high winds and dry brush. Oakland and Alameda County officials said emergency teams will work quickly to contain any fires as conditions may worsen before they improve.  KTVU

  • On Sunday, the Golden State Valkyries beat the Connecticut Sun 87 to 63 at Chase Center after a 36-point run in the second quarter built a 27-point lead by halftime. Kayla Thornton almost tied her career high with 21 points and added eight rebounds—the win moved the team above .500 for the first time since a 2 to 1 start.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy said he did not plan to trade up with the 41st pick and instead would trade back into the second round to find a player who can help the team immediately.
