ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Oakland firefighters responded to a vegetation fire that started Friday on MacArthur Boulevard near 90th Avenue with about 30 firefighters containing the blaze by 4:30 p.m., although the incident is not yet under control.  KTVU

  • Loard’s Ice Cream reopened on June 1 at its historic location on MacArthur Boulevard and Coolidge Avenue in upper Dimond—serving over 45 flavors along with a new sandwiches counter called WesLows; store owner Winnie Tam said the soft reopening comes after a four-year pause due to the pandemic and filming for the movie Freaky Tales.  The Oaklandside

  • San Francisco police executed a search warrant Wednesday at a home on Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Oakland—seizing nearly 5 pounds of fentanyl, over $52,000 in cash, scales and other materials, and arresting four Oakland residents for drug charges.  San Francisco Chronicle

  • Thousands attended Oakland’s Juneteenth celebration featuring music, food, and activities for kids. Locals said the event honored freedom and Black heritage—bringing the community together in a festive spirit.  ABC7

  • Mills College Children's School in Oakland, founded in 1926, will close on June 30. Faculty and parents received an email from dean Beth Kochly at 11 a.m.—staff will be offered severance packages based on their tenure.  The Oaklandside

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On June 20, the Supreme Court reinstated legal challenges by oil and gas companies to California's strict auto emissions standards, and affected firms may now argue they were harmed by the rules.   • It has been one year since FBI agents raided Mayor Sheng Thao’s home and recycling executives’ houses on June 20, and the case has led to federal indictments for bribery involving Thao, her partner Andre Jones & the Duongs while Oakland’s new leadership and budget aim to restore public trust as investigations continue.  The Oaklandside

  • The Golden State Warriors will decide this offseason if they keep forward Jonathan Kuminga and guard Gary Payton II after Sunday's NBA Finals finish.
