EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a board meeting, Oakland Unified School District reviewed its 2024-2025 budget and noted ongoing deficits that require changes (including possible school consolidation) as it prepares to exit state oversight on July 1. • Oakland educators decried proposed cuts to federal Title III funding for English learners as a move that would hurt student services and violate civil rights laws. They warned that schools might have to shift resources from other critical programs—potentially pitting student groups against each other.  San Francisco Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alameda County's Board of Supervisors approved nearly $270 million for a five-year project to repair and update Santa Rita Jail in Oakland following a 4—1 vote at Tuesday’s meeting.
