ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Mary Jo Kelly, 83, was attacked by wild turkeys during her nightly walk in Alameda last Thursday; she broke her glasses, injured her hand, and authorities advise residents and pet owners to maintain a safe distance during the birds + mating season.  ABC7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Plank, a restaurant in Jack London Square, will close on Aug. 2 after nearly 12 years in business. The venue said declining sales and rising operating costs made it unsustainable.  KTVU
  • House of Curries at 3136 Sacramento Street in Berkeley has closed — replaced by Narwal Urban Village — while Oakland-based Planted Table shuttered its Jack London Square facility after eight years, and Special Noodle ended service at its Richmond location after four years.  The Oaklandside

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • San Leandro officials reported a dead gray whale washed up near the Bay Trail south of Marina Park on May 29, and experts began a necropsy to find its cause of death. City crews set up a yellow-taped perimeter and asked the public to avoid the area.  KTVU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caltrans held a community meeting last weekend at the Francophone Charter School in East Oakland as part of its I-580 Truck Access Study—a project that reviews traffic, pollution and safety impacts of lifting the decades-old truck ban.
