  • The inaugural Lakeshore Spring Festival will take place Saturday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. along Lakeshore and Lake Park avenues, featuring live music, a kids zone, and over 100 vendors to celebrate the neighborhood’s vibrant, inclusive spirit.  The Oaklandside

  • Hannah Jenkins, a junior at McClymonds High, received a $5,000 award through Oakland Natives Give Back’s Every Day Counts Attendance Challenge on Wednesday for her steady school attendance, and she said the prize will help invest in her college plans to become a real estate agent.  KTVU
  • OUSD board announced a positive budget update for the first time in 22 years on Wednesday with planned $30 million cuts in each fiscal year to balance spending. A draft for next year's budget is expected by June 30.  The Oaklandside

  • Oakland city council member Noel Callo has recommended renaming 40th Avenue between Mera Street and Carrington Street as Gary Payton Way — a move to honor the local NBA legend for his community contributions. The resolution is expected to be finalized soon.  KTVU
  • Alameda County approved a nonbinding term sheet on Thursday for a $115 million deal to sell its half of the Coliseum complex to a Black-led developer group; unresolved environmental and arena issues remain + further talks may spark billions in East Oakland investments.  The Oaklandside
  • CalFresh funds for farmers markets, known as Market Match, are at risk under the new state budget and could end in March if lawmakers do not act before June 15. Advocates say the program is crucial for helping local shoppers access fresh produce.  The Oaklandside
