CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old suspect—wanted on charges of robberies, carjackings and home invasions—sped through East Bay freeways on Thursday morning, ramming police vehicles and striking an Audi before officers arrested him with minor injuries to him and one officer.  KTVU
  • The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday that Oakland police can be held responsible when reckless pursuits injure or kill bystanders—this decision supports a wrongful death suit filed by the family of Lolo Soakai who died in a 2022 chase.  KTVU

  • Juste Jocyte, a 19-year-old guard (who played high-level basketball since age 14), will play in EuroBasket with Lithuania this summer and join the Golden State Valkyries next season. She also plans to visit the Bay Area to meet the team staff and show her support.  San Francisco Chronicle
