- ➤ Two Oakland businesses were hit with smash-and-grabs on May 1 when suspects broke into Express Gas and Mart on High Street at about 4:30 a.m. and a 7-Eleven 15 minutes later; victims said police did not respond fast enough. KTVU
- ➤ The California Highway Patrol issued an Endangered Missing Advisory early Thursday for a 3-year-old girl last seen in Oakland on April 5 and believed to be with 31-year-old suspect Siokifi Pulu—who reportedly drove a gray Ford Crown Victoria—and urges anyone with information to call 911. KTVU

- ➤ Workers at the University of California held one of the largest demonstrations in a statewide one-day strike on May 1 to protest short staffing and rising healthcare costs while Berkeley teachers joined protests calling for better contracts. Union leader Dan Russell said the walkout led to canceled clinical trials and longer emergency room waits and that both sides plan to resume talks next week. KTVU

- ➤ An Oakland bicyclist who was badly hurt after hitting a pothole may sue the city for damages even though he signed a waiver during an organized ride. - ➤ A report by UC Berkeley professors found that AC Transit’s BRT project increased traffic injuries by 30% and displaced many businesses on International Boulevard due to top-down planning that lacked community input—local officials and activists now call for stronger measures.
