BUSINESS NEWS

  • PG&E announced a plan to bury 1,077 miles of powerlines underground as part of its 2026-2028 Wildfire Mitigation Plan to lower wildfire risk in high-risk areas—its cost will be set later through regulatory filings.  KTVU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oakland voters cast ballots in a special mayoral election held Tuesday to choose a leader after former Mayor Sheng Thao was recalled—nine candidates competed including frontrunners Barbara Lee and Loren Taylor. Polls were open from 7am to 8pm while voters also cast ballots for a District 2 councilmember and a sales tax measure.  KTVU
  • Oakland City Council agreed Monday to postpone the sale of the $125 million Coliseum stake until spring 2026—pending Alameda County finalizing its 50% sale to AASEG. Interim Mayor Kevin Jenkins said the delay will not affect current budget plans.  The Oaklandside

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday night, the Golden State Valkyries picked three players ahead of their first season—Lithuanian guard Justė Jocytė at the 5th pick, Shyanne Sellers from Maryland at the 17th, and Kaitlyn Chen from Connecticut at the 30th pick. The team said the new players will strengthen its roster and will face the Los Angeles Sparks on May 16 at 7 p.m. at Chase Center—boosting their start in the league.  KTVU
