- ➤ Six candidates are vying for Oakland’s District 2 City Council seat in a special election on April 15 to fill the vacancy left when former Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas moved to the Alameda County Board. The race covers areas from Lakeshore to Chinatown and Jack London Square—voters will use ranked-choice voting as candidates propose measures to improve public safety, housing, and local business support. - ➤ With less than a week until the mayoral election in Oakland, candidates are ramping up their campaigns by airing attack ads, holding press conferences, and forming new alliances as independent groups and unions spend heavily.
