- ➤ Oakland voters will go to the polls on April 15 to elect a new mayor after Sheng Thao was recalled in November. Interim Mayor Kevin Jenkins said the county registrar will take 30 days to count votes — and the city council will need two more weeks to certify them — so residents will learn the new leader by mid-May or early June. - ➤ On Tuesday, April 8th, the California Department of Insurance held a public hearing on State Farm's request to raise premiums by 22% for homeowners, 15% for renters, and up to 38% for rental dwellings—State Farm explained the need to rebuild its capital after wildfires and faced criticism from Consumer Watchdog for not providing enough data.
