  • An online charity auction on eBay runs from May 7 to May 14 to win a lunch with Warren Buffett, Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry, benefiting Oakland-based Eat. Learn. Play and GLIDE, with the winner set to host seven guests in Omaha on June 24.  KTVU
  • Authorities and volunteers are searching Dimond Park for missing Farley’s Coffee co-owner Amy Hillyard, who was last seen leaving her Cleveland Heights home at 2 p.m. last Wednesday and is considered at risk due to a medical condition.  KTVU
  • Neighbors in Temescal transformed a vacant lot at 54th & Shattuck into a blooming pollinator garden after raising over $22,000 with help from 40 volunteers & local businesses. The community will celebrate its grand opening for Earth Day.  KTVU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Several new Oakland eateries are refreshing the dining scene: Fungi Foods soft-opened with a limited mushroom menu and will hold its grand opening April 9; Oasis Coffee opened Saturday near Lake Merritt; and Sana’a Cafe will open April 3 near the airport.  The Oaklandside
  • Oakland is hosting a lively arts week as the 'Visible Labor: The East Bay at Work' photo exhibit opens Friday (6 to 9 p.m. at the Oakland Photo Workshop) with refreshments, and family-friendly Friday Nights at OMCA kick off on Friday (5 to 9 p.m.); additional cultural events are scheduled.  The Oaklandside

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oakland Unified School District has made nearly all drinking water sources safe today — only two faucets remain out of service after an 18-month lead crisis that started in 2024. Officials said updated testing dashboards and new filtration stations will help keep school water safe for students.  The Oaklandside

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Trust for Public Land has inked a $175M deal to buy the shuttered Golden Gate Fields racetrack in Albany and Berkeley, planning to convert the 161-acre site into a waterfront park. It will work with the East Bay Regional Park District to boost Bay access and improve ecosystem resilience.  ABC7
