CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in East Oakland on Monday at about 4:15 p.m. on the 1400 block of 100th Avenue + a victim was found, taken to a local hospital, and pronounced dead.  KTVU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Oakland Restaurant Week (with over 160 restaurants participating) will begin tomorrow at The Town and run through March 30, letting food lovers explore exclusive menus and special pricing. Oakland was named #1 Best Food City by Condé Nast Traveler, highlighting the city's diverse culinary scene.  ABC7
  • Oakland hosts several events this week—historian Javier Armas will present a lecture on the Mam language at Chapel of the Chimes on March 20, and Grammy-nominated Eric Benét will perform with Joe and Musiq Soulchild at the Paramount Theatre on March 21.   • JPMorgan Chase has supported Casa Sueños at Fruitvale Transit Village with an $89.8 million construction loan and $55.7 million in tax credit investments—part of its ongoing billions-dollar effort to build nearly 7,000 affordable homes for Bay Area residents. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oakland is seeking volunteers to join a new five-member Public Safety Planning and Oversight Commission that will review $47 million in tax dollars from Measure NN to fund extra police, fire, and violence prevention services. The commission will develop two community violence reduction plans and candidates who apply by March 24 will be given priority.  The Oaklandside

  • Several new restaurants have opened across the East Bay with a weekly BBQ pop-up now at Kingfish in Oakland, a sushi pop-up from Itani operating in Oakland through June, and Marugame Udon launching its second spot in Alameda.
