  • Oakland celebrated Olympic gold medalist figure skater Alysa Liu on Thursday (at Frank Ogawa Plaza) when she held her medal high and thanked the community; Mayor Barbara Lee awarded her the key to the city amid music and tributes from locals.   • A new study finds that if gas reaches $7 per gallon, Bay Area commuters face rising costs, with driving from Walnut Creek to downtown increasing from $18.85 to $21.60 while a BART ride costs about $13.90+ saving over $7 per trip.  ABC7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hyphae Design will plant a tree barrier along Frontage Road in West Oakland in March to reduce vehicle pollution while addressing concerns about allergenic plants (including limited bottlebrush use).
