  • Children's Fairyland park has been renamed to Children's FairyLiu to honor local Olympian Alysa Liu. The sign is displayed at Fairy Hill (699 Bellevue Ave) on Lake Merritt from March 12 through March 30 during community celebrations.  KTVU

  • Berkeley-based Ditto plans a series of blind date yacht parties and is hiring a Chief Yacht Officer to manage event planning with a competitive salary estimated at $150,000 to $200,000. The AI-driven start-up targets college students and will hold its next event on March 28 in New York City.  KTVU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report shows that Oakland loses nearly $24 billion in development and $181 million in property taxes because freeways use up prime urban land. City officials are reviewing removal of highway I980 to open up valuable land + spur local growth.  The Oaklandside

  • TSA agents at Oakland’s airport are struggling with long security lines and low pay amid the partial government shutdown, and officials are considering privatizing screening at SFO — where private contractors must meet TSA standards. Union leaders oppose privatization and urge Congress to secure full pay for aviation workers.  ABC7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oakland will use a $4.4 million federal grant to remove toxic lead paint from 50 homes this fall as Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley oversees the work. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • After months of delays, nine unhoused families who paid deposits and signed leases for the 100-unit Phoenix Apartments at 821 Pine St. remain in temporary long-term shelter arranged by county officials, with a clear opening date still pending.  Oakland Voices
  • The Radish compound (a 14,000 sqft multi-unit community for young families) is on sale for $4-6 million after founders said the group is outgrowing the space. Tours will be held throughout April, and offers will be accepted in June.  KTVU

  • Golden State Warriors guard Moses Moody launched an AI digital mind on Wednesday (Mar. 11) to share his training habits and values with young fans. The tool, created with San Francisco-based Delphi, extends his mentorship through his Motivate One Foundation in Little Rock.  KTVU
