ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Satellite data shows that parts of California, including areas near the Bay and Central Valley, sank from groundwater pumping and drought while a few places lifted from oil extraction (experts warn ongoing subsidence may jeopardize local infrastructure), prompting officials to refine groundwater management. - ➤ After heavy rains, Oakland drivers encountered flooding on the Jackson Street off-ramp and nearby I-880/I-980 interchange late Wednesday. Caltrans crews worked at 7 p.m. to drain water (poor drainage design) and drivers say they will remain cautious with more rain expected. KTVU
