Good morning, Oakland. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 7th of February.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Horn Barbecue was evicted from its Lafayette space on Feb. 5 by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, returning the building to its owner. The restaurant has a suspended liquor license (a tax issue) that adds to the challenges faced by the rapidly expanding chain.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • Waymo explained during a Senate hearing that its self-driving robotaxis sometimes call remote workers in the Philippines for guidance—like a phone-a-friend—while the company retains full control over the vehicles on Bay Area roads. It noted that both local and overseas operators assist when challenges arise.  San Francisco Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Celebrities have been spotted around the Bay Area ahead of Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday, Feb. 8. Appearances include Oakland rapper Too Short at a pop-up and chef Guy Fieri dining locally as stars gather during Super Bowl week.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • A series of new restaurants offering Southern, Mexican, Indian, Yemeni and Italian menus began opening in January across the East Bay (including Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Walnut Creek) as owners bring diverse, authentic fare to local neighborhoods.  The Oaklandside
  • LaRussell joined with Oakland’s Co-Llab Choir & Pittsburg High School Marching Show Band to host a pep rally on Feb. 6 in downtown San Francisco. He plans a tailgate party on Feb. 8 and a rerun on Feb. 19 at Chase Center.  San Francisco Chronicle

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Golden State Warriors traded for Kristaps Porzingis (a 7-foot-2 center) because coach Steve Kerr trusts the team’s medical staff to keep him on the court. He will be introduced today in Los Angeles (before key matchups) to boost the team’s competitiveness.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • The Warriors won 101-97 on Thursday by sinking 20 three-pointers while holding the Suns to 15 points in the fourth quarter; Pat Spencer scored a career-high 20 in a game played without Steph Curry.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • The Warriors did not sign Giannis Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline and will try to make a move this summer. They secured four available first round draft picks to build around Curry as they adjust their roster for next season.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • The Warriors traded Jonathan Kuminga, leaving Stephen Curry with a leaner lineup for the rest of the season. Team management plans to adjust player roles while fans watch closely for updates from coach Steve Kerr.  San Francisco Chronicle
