ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday, Feb. 2, the USGS reported a series of tremors near San Ramon including a 3.9 quake followed by a 4.3 quake with at least five smaller shocks—official data show the main event occurred at 7:01 a.m.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 68th Grammys in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 1 featured historic wins and powerful performances that preview upcoming Super Bowl week concerts across the Bay Area, with Oakland R&B singer Kehlani set to perform at San Jose City Hall and 1015 Folsom.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday, Feb. 8 with a 12 to 15 minute set — a historic first for a solo Latin artist — while Bay Area events let fans share excitement ahead of the game.  San Francisco Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • California audited 34 Oakland public schools after more than 10% of kindergarteners or seventh graders were unvaccinated last school year, with one school (Elmhurst United Middle) reporting 63% of seventh graders needing vaccinations. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • BART now offers free Wi-fi at five stations including West Oakland to help riders check train schedules and routes for Super Bowl travel. The network, one year behind schedule after a 2020 approval, gives riders a simple connection without needing an email.  San Francisco Chronicle
  • Gov. Newsom’s administration launched a major crackdown on kratom products and 7-OH — following deaths linked to the drugs — which prompted retailers to find them pulled from shelves, and the California Department of Public Health warned sellers that enforcement will begin in February.  SFGate
