Good morning, Oakland.

On Jan. 1, family and community members gathered at the Oscar Grant Youth Empowerment Zone in Fruitvale (moved due to rain) for the 17th annual vigil honoring Oscar Grant, combining remembrance with calls for justice.

The Oscar Grant Foundation will host its annual gala on Feb. 28 in Oakland.

Bay Area high school football players were honored for the 2025 season, including Balboa's Mekai Smith who broke records with 53 touchdowns (and Oakland's Dominic Davis who led his team to an eighth Northern California title) as local coaches celebrated first-year successes.
